We meet most Sunday Mornings at 9:15 in the worship room. Zoom participation is also welcome

Gwynedd Meeting offers thoughtful, diverse programs between September and June. Adults explore such topics as religion, spirituality, and social issues. All are invited to explore Friends beliefs and testimonies as they relate to our personal lives and the times in which we live. 

Sometimes we feature a speaker or film; other weeks we explore challenging issues in small groups.  A few Sundays during the year we enjoy an inter-generational activity, often involving a service project.  We seek to offer all participants ways to deepen their spiritual lives in a setting of loving fellowship.

The Quaker roots of this now popular phrase and what it means for current challenges in our world.  
An Adult Quaker Education session sponsored by the Peace and Social Action Committee on Sunday, September 27 at 9:15 a.m. 
This AQE will begin with a brief account of the origins of this phrase—with Bayard Rustin during WWII and then his co-authorship of Speak Truth To Power, an AFSC pamphlet published in 1955 and available on line. This AQE adopts/accepts AFSC’s understanding of “truth”—that love endures and overcomes, and that hatred destroys—and refers to AFSC’s belief that ‘it was possible and reasonable to give practical expression to this truth in the great conflict between the US and the Soviet Union in the mid-20th century.’

The AFSC pamphlet encourages both individuals and nations to ‘practice peace’ in order to ameliorate the threat and practice of violence in that earlier period. We shall consider how such a commitment to non-violence might apply to ourselves and our Meeting as we face the reality of violence and conflict in the 21st Century.

Queries such as the following might frame this discussion:
 

1. What is my understanding and experience of practicing peace?
2. What can I do to ‘practice peace’ in my relationships with others? 
3. How can I demonstrate my commitment to the truth that ‘love endures and overcomes’?
4. ​What more might this Meeting do to help its members and attenders practice peace? 
5. What more might it do to practice peace in our community and nation.
