Meetings for Worship - Sunday Mornings - Wednesday Evenings

Join us for worship! Please arrive at least ten minutes early, to get settled. 4 SundayServices - COPY

Sunday mornings at 9:30-10:45 AM we gather at both the Meetinghouse and on Zoom (hybrid).
Childcare is available for children four or younger during worship year-round. Older children usually worship with the adults for the first fifteen minutes before going to their special programs conducted September through May.

Wednesday evenings are on Zoom only, 8-8:30 PM, followed by informal sharing until 9PM.

Gwynedd Friends Meeting worships in the traditional manner of Friends (Quakers) in our plain unadorned room. We don’t have a predetermined reading, verse, or theme. We gather in silence, quiet our minds, calm our hearts to seek the source of love and truth in our lives. Each of us is invited to experience a growing connection to our inner Divinity and our relationships to one another.

Before the appointed time, we enter the room quietly and take a seat settling into communal silence and stillness. Centering our thoughts, we wait expectantly for direct personal communion with Spirit, under any other name the God within us is known. We are open to experience the power of our gathered group.
Every worship is different. Over time, we develop the ability to open ourselves to discernment of the Divine intention for us. We also hope for the spiritual discipline to know when to share messages from Spirit in vocal ministry.

RippleAfter a message, no one speaks as it ripples through the meeting and the centered silence resumes. The community receives the message without judgment or comments. We just listen deeply. Sometimes, a message from God is for us alone. So, we continue in silence. We share vocal ministries sparingly wanting to add to the silence, not to disrupt the worship of others.

No dogmas or creeds limit our experience. We believe that truth and clarity are revealed to us as we continue our spiritual journeys. Messages often have a ripple effect on others, like tossing a pebble into a pond.

During worship, diversity of expression is part of the gifts we each bring. Never is worship time intended for sermonizing, prepared observations, or giving updates on our personal lives. Worship is always about waiting for Spirit to speak through us.

Sunday worship lasts about an hour and ends when the head of Meeting stands to shake hands and encourages us to greet one another. This is followed by introductions, announcements or messages that were not considered vocal ministry. After worship, messages last about ten minutes or so. Please plan to stay longer when a program, or food and fellowship is scheduled. You’ll learn what is scheduled on our website calendar.

Creating space for a “gathered meeting” is treasured during worship. A gathered meeting can attain more-than-the-usual sense of Divine presence. Some describe the feeling as the Spirit moving among us—offering a sense of togetherness that unites worshippers in holy fellowship. Then, we prepare to take it out into the world.
