FCNL Priorities Process Continues
On March 15th, during Meeting for Business, we will continue to discern our Meeting’s legislative priorities for the next Congress for the Friends Committee on National
Legislation. These statements were gleaned from our worship-sharing session in February.
Please consider this query as you prepare to participate in this event. Time and again, the Bible tells stories of people who listened to God but were ignored by society’s leaders. During the period of Israel’s and Judah’s monarchies, the prophets often spoke or wrote to call on their kings to rule with justice and faithfulness to God’s intentions. New Testament Christians were instructed both to speak and to live prophetically as a way of challenging authorities to do what was right.
In what areas do we need to call upon government to more fully embrace truth and justice?

A Draft Recommendations:
FCNL Priorities for the 120th Congress
Gwynedd Friends Meeting
March 15, 2026
1. Ensure voting rights and strengthen the democratic process across political divisions, while maintaining checks and balances among our three branches of government. (II.1.2; II.1.5)
2. Seek nonviolent solutions to domestic and global problems; respect the sovereignty of all nations and adhere to international law. (I.1.1)
3. Reduce military spending and use those funds to support human needs like health care, recognizing that systemic inequality is leading to a growing gap between rich and poor. (I.2.5)
4. Construct a compassionate immigration policy that recognizes the inherent worth of each individual, demilitarizes our borders and welcomes the immigrant communities
into our society. (II.5.1)
5. Continue to confront the impact of climate change, by rigorously enforcing regulations which promote environmental sustainability. (IV.1.1; IV.1.2; IV.2.5)
Addendum for Notes:
1. Gwynedd Friends Meeting continues to support gun control legislation, especially to ban assault weapons. We will work on these measures in Pennsylvania, along with
other like-minded organizations.
